Kinnegad (Cionn Átha Gad) is a town in Co. Westmeath and Co. Meath located on the border of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and Ancient East in the Midlands.

 

The town has a growing population of 3,064 people with a strong community spirit. It is located within 60 km of Dublin, 140 km of Sligo and 150 km of Galway. 

 

The town is conveniently positioned along the main east to west motorways, the M4 and M6, making it a popular commuting and stop-over motorway hub. The motorways diverge at Kinnegad. 

 

Local roads connect Kinnegad to the villages of Clonard, Killucan, Rathwire, and Coralstown. These link Kinnegad to the Royal Canal Greenway and National Famine Way, a popular walking and cycling route from the River Shannon to the River Liffey. The canal greenway spans a total of 145 km, with a further 42 km cycle route to Athlone.

 

Kinnegad’s services include restaurants, cafes, bars, a primary school, credit union, GP surgery, veterinary practice, funeral directors, estate agents, and pharmacies. Retail includes large supermarkets as well as local offerings. 

 

Kinnegad has a town park beside its town Library and a riverside playground offering safe play and exercise spaces for all ages.

 

Sports and exercise facilities include GAA club, running track, padel court, soccer club, basketball court and skateboard park. Boreen Bradach is a 5km signed walking loop connecting Kinnegad with our rural hinterland. The town park contains age-friendly outdoor gym equipment and accessible play equipment.
